We're really glad you're here Big Zim. As for feeling like the game is a lot deeper than you thought originally, ph yeah. That's a common experience. I still remember when I was recruited by Whiskey back in 2005. He told me he was going to set me up with a fighter, and I thought I'd impress him by sharing my knowledge that the Titan was the best ship in the game. After all, it had the most armor and nanobots, right? I can still see the text on the screen. "Not necessarily. I think we'll set you up with an Eagle." Then he had me fly down to Theta in a starflier. Now realize, I didn't know that you could just engine kill and turn around to get away from AI--and he didn't tell me. So there I am with a Liberty Navy rep trying to sneak this starflier into Freeport 9. It took hours--I think three hours. My second Eagle took just as long. The then bass Treasurer--callsign "Crazy"--asked me to come down to gamma to transfer cash for him. I forget why he thought it would be quicker for me to make a new eagle for the task. I must have been up in the taus or something. But that took three hours, and I think he gave up on me and left the game. (I mean left the game. I don't remember seeing him on line after that... lol. Perhaps not, but he did log out.) The first Eagle got traded in on my Anubis ([bass]_The_Black_Knight,) that I picked up during the Boston Mod, and the second one is [bass]-Knight. My first system battle was for Gallileo, and it was kind of a "traning" battle with Lambda Omega Three. I was still using 1st person perspective, and I never saw the enemy ships. There was only Whiskey and I, and I got dusted instantaneously. But Whiskey still managed to get a kill in both rounds--Jab King himself no less. (Jab was the leader of L03.) Ok. That's enough before I turn this welcome thread into "Confessions of a Noob." Say, that wouldn't make a bad thread...hmmmm.... TBK Ok. So the above post kind of kicked the idea off. Here you can post your noobiest moments for all to see. The Confession Line is open! TBK

I still dont know the names of all the Kusarian systems...
for about 6 month after DracO formed I thought that Beta was a Corsair system. Until while running away from Outcasts in Alpha I jumped through to Beta and died.
I never knew about speed docking until I was flying past a planets docking ring and pressed the middle button (which that the time was to dock) and the planet sucked me in.

hahaha you can also speed dock with Jump holes, jump gates and Trade lanes. trade lanes have green and red flashing lights indicating with direction each one goes. also i'd say ive been in each tau system once or twice since ive been playing FL online. so i have no idea whats up their.

I didn't know about speed docking planets until a few months ago, when I read some post busting on ~OSG~Phoenix speed docking too late on a planet. It seems he didn't quite hit the F3 and time, and just whipped into the atmosphere. Since then, I find that what is really neat, is if you hit the lower part of the "gate claw" for lack of a better term, simultaneously as you hit the dock button (F3). Sometimes it doesn't work, but it usually speed docks you sideways. And of course, if you park a Humpback next to the gate, and then press dock, you can get the opposite of a speed dock. The three-hour-might-go-on-forever-looping-around-the-gate dock. (Somewhere there's a 20 minute video of this someone made...might be on GOI somewhere but I'm not sure.) TBK

not very nice scorth. i should be happy that u had people in TL for 3 years. asura isnt even full of good guys, heck only me and rock can do proper damage, but im proud of them all for doing what theyre ment to and trying to get it done, even if they do fail a few times.
bottom line be greatful for those who have stayed in TL for the last 3 years (like u said, no members had left so far?bar me and balth) coz without them, im sure even i would ditch a clan after 3 years of flyign alone
my conffesion of deh noobie ness (just to get back at scorth for what he said about his recruits >_> ) ;
i joined TL when i came here v.v

First week on Freelancer and I got bored with just flying around not knowing anything so I challenged a guy to pvp. Didn't know how to fight. Didn't even know there were missiles and lvl 10 shields. Not to mention CD's and mines and the like. Needless to say I got slaughtered but "what the heck." Just happened to be TBK. He was the first guy I talked with on GOI and I've been in bass ever since. I remember classic moments like flying through Hokkaido to get to Theta. Having Riddler say "show me your drift" and me saying "I thought I was." (lol) Grisha saying "GO" and me saying "I'm dead" in about the same breath. The first time I ran into Checkov and he buzzed around me in a Starflee and I could hardly scratch him. He spent hours showing me how to really fly the suckers. First time I ran into Thor he "first passed" me 8 times straight before I figured out ships can go up and down as well as sideways. When I run into Tidus or Rocky I still have that problem My fondest memories of starting Freelancer was the comradery and mateship of bass & DracO and flying with TBK, Fleggy, Sly, Thor, Grisha, Princess, Praxis, Iikami, Procene and Rambler. Top crew, top guys (n gal). That's why I still play today (when I can).

one of my most noobish moments was when my very first duel, i fought a human player as if i was fighting an NPC, lol. (Oct 2005'ish) i didnt know about engin kill, drifting, i was hopeless. and i used torps instead of CD's
one of my fondest memories was just before i was invited to join bass, i was introduced to Sly by someone, (cant remember his name) and i dueled him. he was in an eagle, i was in a hawk. needless to say i got blasted but if memory serves i did manage to hit sly a few times. it was fun.

I remember shortly after inheriting the Death Knights having a system battle against Lighthouse for Omega 11. I hired Arms Dealer for the battle, which was handy as he pointed out that CDs could be used to stop missiles (I thought they just killed engines). We then set off to fight the battle but because I didn't have a neutral rep, and didn't know how to evade them, the Red Hessians actually prevented me from participating in the first round. After Arms and Centurion had won the 2nd round vs Checkov (again I failed to make it there), I finally made it to the third round whereupon Checkov kicked my butt.
It was quite a while before I learned about drifting, reverse thrust, speed docking etc (so you can speed dock with a planet without using the docking ring???).
Most of the time I still feel pretty much the noob I've always been.

Speed docking a planet DOES require the docking ring!
You just hit F3 as soon as you fly up to the opening of the ring--just like a tradelane.
I actually like to hit the lower ring; it flips you around, and you land backwards or upsidedown or sideways--you have to time the F3 exactly with the hit though.
Oh, and if you're late with the dock button, you blow up as you fly into the atmosphere. That's a VERY important point.

So there I am with a Liberty Navy rep trying to sneak this starflier into Freeport 9. It took hours--I think three hours. My second Eagle took just as long TBK ROFLOL, omg TBK, i woulda thought managing it at ALL was non noobish. I still remember when Fleggy *Guano, i almost cried then Took me on my white run. I didn't even make it to ROCHESTER!!! I died at least twice before i managed to dock. Cripes, it must have taken near 3 hours to get to Ames. (I was remembering this quite vividly while i was escorting [not-yet-bass]-Iikami, in a starflier, with a reeeed outcast rep, from leeds up to Tau 37!!!! He made it in one go ) Appart from that there were the usual "missles huh, they're USEFULL? " "CD's, what's the point? they just take up the slot for the Torps!!" "where can I buy the Titan? and why are you all flying Eagles??) and "Engine kill, what good's that in a fight??" moments about the only thing i had figured out for myself was speed docking (I called it the "drop and dock manouver" lame huh lol) even there I thought it only worked on rings and holes, and it was twice as complicated as it needed to be, Target ring, cruise, dock, free flight, engine kill, then (timing it) dock, all done with the mouse whats more, lol. ok make that 3 times as complicated. lol, I thought it was sooo kool and was going to wow everyone on the server. I figured out that it was the same thing as this "speed docking" I had read about in the forums, and NEVER MENTIONED THIS COOL "Drop&Dock manouver" to ANYONE!!!! roflolorator. Ohh, one other noobish moment worth mentioning. Flying around NY (back when there were regularly 15+ players in NY alone) in my newly created anonymous char (may even have been WaiF) "pretending" to be a noob, when I had a glorious month or so of MP experience and very nearly that much time with "CLAN TAGS!!!!!". lol, i didn't really need to pretend very hard. ADDED: come to think of it, I'd only had the net for about 4 months too lol ADDED: I just remembered, when I DID finally make it to Ames on that first white run, I went and bought a *darn tootin' XENO hack instead of the Zoners, ++ ??++ OUT OF CASH ERROR. REDO FROM START lol

;D I wont comment, co sI think most of these I've done in the past also.... Except for calling speed docking..ha, what? My first system battle ever was Galileo, OSG vs BoB, the first fight when the 3 system rule was lifted. Yes, as a late as that... Famously I nailed 2 decent pilots, Duke and Phoenix, and possibly won the first round for BoB. Shame I was with OSG at the time Only once have we made it back to Galileo, after OSG captured New York and Colorado (going the long way around.. ) FU put in a challenge. Unfortunately only Tommy could show, so it was me an im vs 6 TL/AR... Which was 300 missiles a piece, and we inevitably lost. So I'm yet to get retribution... or whatever that word is.. for my very first fight. Oh, and reverse super-jumping. Noobs.

The VERY FIRST time I ever played Freelancer I logged on to GOI into Oddball's Eagle in New Berlin because that's where all the defaults took me. I then spent some time trying to undock (about an hour I think), then spent several hours trying to fly to the planet there (I came out of The Ring - No it wasn't New Berlin I was trying to dock with.) I kept hitting the thing and dying. Stupid Game. I gave it up for a few weeks then. Came back later and made my own ship, started from scratch. Wasn't much better though. And I still can't speed dock and when you could super jump Timmy & Phill spent like hours trying to show me how but I never did get the gist of the sucker. I was thankfull it was banned - lol.

Ah no! You're thinking of Superjumping. That is pretty difficult to do, and now blows up your ship, so there's no point in learning.
Speed docking just means you select the docking ring, fly right up to it on your own, and then dock right at the entrance. That way you don't have 10 seconds of having the computer fly your ship into the right position. You just go.
If you do it with a planet, the doors don't even open. You just go right in. (Though they do open with jump gates.)
