Hey! Check this out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MvDL3vsDV0This is supposed to be the ORIGINAL intro to freelancer. The one in the game was edited down! It also explains why the coalition never came after the sleeper ships!!! Darn. And I had a plot line prepared for the tales of the black knight for that...Oh well. I'll work something else out. TBK

LOL - how did you find this gem buried in the amount of junk on YouTube? Yes that does limit the whole Coalition forces coming to Sirius angle to work into the Tales of TBK However it does give you a name to work with - this Atticus Rockford fellow may have some RP prospects

Thats a reall cool video
i can understand why it was edited down because if they left the video intact then it would have contained major spoilers for the single player story missions.

Yes that does limit the whole Coalition forces coming to Sirius angle to work into the Tales of TBK However it does give you a name to work with - this Atticus Rockford fellow may have some RP prospects Believe it or not, the local paper did a story on YouTube like it was some incredible way for people to express themselves. I checked it out, and it reinforced my basic beliefs about the internet: 1. The really great thing about the internet is that anyone-absolutely anyone, can contribute to it's content. 2. The really bad thing about the internet is that anyone-absolutely anyone, can contribute to it's content. Actually I stole that from Lewis Black's commentary on Jesse Ventura being elected govenor of Minnesota. (Anyone can be elected..) But of course I had to do a search on "Freelancer" before I walked away from it, and lo and behold... I'm still going to try to find a location where I can save it to disk. And I'm already pursuing including these details in the Tales of the Black Knight! TBK

The video was very cool, and actually reminded me quite a lot of another space sim game; Freespace 2. In that game the alien bad guys destroy a star in a spectacular ending.
I might suggest that the original intent might have been to suggest that this Atticus Rockford guy founds The Order. Since The Order is apparently been hanging around waiting for the Nomads.
I would imagine that the people that wrote Freelancer would have refined the ideas involved with the game during production and perhaps the long intro was done fairly early. The focus of the game may have shifted and the Atticus character may have changed to the leader of The Order (I forget his character's name (Orrilion??), but the 'Atticus' voice certainly sounded like the voice actor they used for the leader of The Order).
Anyway, I think that the intro was cut down partly due to time constraints and partly because the Atticus character didn't wind up in the main story. But I don't work for Microsoft, so I am just taking a wild guess here, probably wrong.

Great minds think alike, and my PM to Grisha proves that we came up with this thought independently. Let's just say I'm exploring that a bit for the Tales of the Black Knight, and I was gettting Grisha's approval for a DracO part of the story. TBK

I recall reading quite some time ago.. unfortunately I haven't played Starlancer.. But apparently the Freelancer saga was planned as a 'backwards trilogy'
The third installment was never intended as FL2, but it would be based around the war prior to the departure to Sirius. I guess perhaps it wasn't originally planned like that, but it allowed them to remove aspects from Starlancer which wouldn't fit with Freelancer, as they hadn't happened yet..
