This is posted on the Microsoft Freelancer Site: Message from Microsoft Games Support Microsoft Game Studios has made the decision to retire player matchmaking services for Freelancer. We are proud to have hosted these services and would like to personally thank you for being loyal to our games. You will still be able to play your games and create matches within your game; however, matches will no longer be hosted by Microsoft Game Studios.
Best regards, Microsoft Games Support So we are on our own for connecting to our server. The good news is, that all you need to do is edit your shortcut. Right click on your freelancer icon, and select properties. Then change the Target from this: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" to this: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe" -sfreelancer.timoid.org:2302 When you go into multiplayer, one server will show up! And do you really need any others? ;D TBK

Lancers is down at the moment, but they have a file that duplicates the Global Server.
Once Lancers is back up, the file takes 5 seconds to download and no setting up. I've been using it for the past month and to be honest, had forgotten I wasn't using the Global Server. From a user perspective, it is identical.

Lancers still seems to be down at the moment - hope they're not suffering anything terminal.
