OMICRON MAJOR HUMPBACK RACES
The goal: Take the slowest turning ship in Freelancer, and make it go counter-clockwise around the trenches in the Omicron Major Dyson Sphere faster than anybody. (Yes, I’m an American, and if a humpy race isn’t a homage to either the NASCAR Truck series or to Semi races, I don’t know what is.)
Alternate goal: To take the slowest turning ship in Freelancer, make it go clockwise around the trenches in the Omicron Major Dyson Sphere, and smash into as many people as possible. (No points or Prizes for this, but experience has proven it’s fun—especially if you fall behind early.)
Secondary Goal: Survive
Prizes: TBD; donations are welcome.
Rally Point: Tekagi's Base (The Arch) in Tokohu.
Date: Saturday, October 20th, 2007AD (807AS)
Time: We meet at the Arch at 12:00pm (Midday, aka Noon.)
Rules: As soon as you jump into Omicron Major, the race begins. Enter the outer trench at the closest point, and travel ten times around the trench. Then jump out of the outer trench, and do ten laps around the inner trench. You must be in the trench for all twenty laps, although if you are bumped into the air, you may re-enter. Cruising around the outside of the trench will cause disqualification.
The first Humpy to complete twenty laps--or the last humpy to die, as there are lots of guns and nomads, not to mention the possibility of unscrupulous competitors--wins.
Other than that, you can bump, shoot, block, ram, do whatever you like. Cruise engines or thrusters are fine--you've got to make the turns, so it's up to you.
Anyone showing up to try and shoot the humpies with VHFs during the race, or doing anything else annoying will be beamed by an admin to Planet Primus, Lower Unknown. If you're that bored, you should really try out the BSM nomad fleets.
Official help: I would love to have someone film this; I will bet it will be the funniest Freelancer vid on YouTube. Turn one could get VERY entertaining. Plus ideally I’d like some help counting laps.
Heats: We will have as many races as the people who show up are interested in having. I’d like to have at least two full races, so the race officials can have a turn.
Afterwards, we will try the million dollar Terminator mission with Humpies—because we’ll be there anyway.
No need to sign up, just show up. Barring real life interference, I'll be there with bells on.
